Digital health innovator The Clinician has reportedly partnered with healthcare provider Northern Health to expand VVED (Victorian Virtual Emergency Department).
As part of the statewide expansion, the companies will create a patient registration and intake platform through which patients can remotely access non-urgent emergency care on their devices.
ZEDOC, the digital health platform of The Clinician, is configured to deliver VVED with an optimized digital solution for intaking patients along with a clinical tracking dashboard to access virtual emergency care.
The Clinician has been collaborating with Northern Health to replace the original intake technology of VVED with an enhanced digital front door solution.
Unveiled in April 2022, patients seeking non-critical medical care can now provide their details and complete an assessment of digital health screening on their devices.
Through the tracking dashboard of ZEDOC, VVED staff can immediately access registration outcomes and follow up with patients through video calls.
Taking less than two months from ideation to execution, The Clinician team and Northern Health collaborated to include critical features like the availability of registration forms in 22 different languages, automated clinical tracking, SMS verification, and optimized integration with the telehealth service of HealthDirect.
Currently, the new solution is being leveraged by over 200 clerical and clinical staff, who can access it remotely or onsite.
Since the commencement of the expansion, the VVED has increased its capacity by four times, from 50-60 patients per day to more than 250 daily patients. This increase is managed by The Clinician's ZEDOC solution.
The VVED expansion across the state of Victoria comes on the heels of robust outcomes from the program since its launch in 2020. That comprises:
- Average wait times of thirty minutes to seek a triage nurse through telehealth
- A discharge rate of 80% from the virtual ED with 40 percent directed to other services and 40% discharged directly
