Innovation Norway, Siva, and the Research Council of Norway have awarded NOK 100 million ($ 11 million) through the Norwegian Green Platform initiative to a group of companies including the FREYR Battery.

The initiative intends to offer a platform to demonstrate the sustainable production of batteries.

The group of companies, together with the Institute for Energy Technology, and SINTEF, will commence the project ‘Sustainable Materials for the Battery Value Chain’. The companies will collaborate to decrease their environmental footprints throughout the value chain, from active battery material production to the production of cells, safety, recycling, and modeling of battery downgrading.

The Green Platform offers support to research institutes and companies for innovation and research-driven energy transformation. The project has been examined thoroughly by national as well as international experts.

Commenting on the initiative, Jan Christian Vestre, the Minister of Trade and Industry expressed that the Green Platform is a crucial venture to assure the profitable green transition and it will also contribute to upscaling the company’s skill of connecting research to the market. Vestre added that the initiative enables policy instruments to further stimulate industries that create low emissions and more value along with export and job opportunities.

Jan Arve Haugan, the President and Managing Director of FREYR Battery Norway believes that the support offered by the Norwegian Green Platform initiative reflects a strong message from the administration that batteries are crucial for decarbonizing transportation as well as energy systems.

Haugan cited that the company will be able to make a stronger impact by collaborating with authorities and industry experts as it looks to create an impression in the transition.

For those unversed, FREYR Battery intends to offer industry-level clean battery solutions to decrease global emissions. The company’s goal is to make green battery cells to expedite the decarbonization of transportation and energy systems worldwide.
