FMCG firm Dabur India Ltd. has reportedly announced that it is now a 100 percent plastic waste neutral company in the country.
Dabur asserted that it has accumulated, processed, and recycled nearly 27,000 MT of post-customer plastic waste from across the country in the FY 2021-22. The company accumulates, processes, and recycles the same amount of plastic waste that it packages and sells in a year, thus becoming a plastic waste neutral firm.
Shahrukh A. Khan, the Executive Director-Operations at Dabur expressed that the Dabur family is proud of this achievement as it has worked to collect plastic waste from towns, cities, as well as villages and has successfully prevented the waste from reaching oceans and landfills.
Khan added that the company collects all kinds of plastic waste including HDPE and PET bottles, PP labels, and caps to beverage cartons and multi-layered plastics.
Dabur aimed to gather, process, and recycle more than 22,000 MT of post-customer plastic waste in 2021-22. However, the company achieved the objective three months ahead of schedule and has improved its yearly target to 26,956 MT.
The FMCG major has released its initiative of Plastic Waste Management in the year 2017-19 under its PWM (Plastic Waste Management) Rule 2016. According to the company, it has collected more than 54,000 MT of end-user plastic waste with the assistance of local ragpickers across 150 cities in India.
Additionally, Dabur plans to unveil Save the Environment, a new campaign in Himachal Pradesh to increase awareness within communities regarding plastic waste management within their household.
Commenting on this initiative, Tusar Pattnaik, the Head of Environment, Health & Safety at Dabur stated that the firm will provide cotton carry bags to be used as a replacement for plastic bags that are presently used in households.
