Facebook has reportedly unveiled a new app, Collab, through the help of the NPE, its internal research and development team, that launches new-age mobile products.
The new Collab app will offer a platform for users to collaborate on making various music videos. The service is unlike TikTok as it will allow users to create their own original music and share them with the public. These videos will not last more than 15 seconds, and the app is not geared towards professional musicians. The app will instead capture users playing an instrument or any other object. Other benefits offered by the app include the ability to share video content via Facebook or Instagram.
The app would not be made available on every device immediately. Instead, there is an invite-only access to the new platform. iPhone users in the United States and Canada can deploy the app for the time being. The company’s R&D team has been working on unveiling the app for the last few months. Collab app will significantly serve users who are maintaining the social distancing guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Once videos are shared on Facebook, users can edit the content but not the music. In addition to the recent app, the social media & technology company has launched video app Hobbi, music app Aux, and meme creator Whale.
The company is planning to commence the verification process of various profiles to add more security to the platform, thereby increasing the probability to react to the high-reach posts coming via unrefined sources or bots. Facebook also stated that it will verify the identity of users posing videos that are rapidly going viral in the United States.
Additionally, it is observing whether the rules are being followed and obeyed by those who are handling Facebook page activities. It stated that the page admins would not be able to post the unverified posts on the platform. It will also ensure the users’ privacy by securing their registered IDs and not sharing the profiles.
