Byton, a renowned Chinese electric vehicle (EV) company, has reportedly announced that it is on track to conclude all the construction activities of its factory in Nanjing by the month of May.
Reports cite, the plant, located in China’s Jiangsu province, would be capable of manufacturing over 300,000 vehicles on a yearly basis. The factory’s manufacturing equipment would be supplied by DÃœRR AG and KUKA of Germany, and by Japan’s AIDA Engineering.
According to a report by
TechNode, the plant is being built at the same site where the company’s prototype manufacturing facility is located. Established in 2016 by former Infinity & BMW executives, the company is set to roll-out its first vehicle, M-Byte smart SUV, by the end of the second quarter of 2019 with mass production set to begin by the year’s end.
Byton is also reportedly working with a couple of key strategic investors such as the Changchun, China-headquartered automotive manufacturing firm, FAW Group Corporation and Ningde, China-based energy storage company, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd (CATL).
The Co-Founder & President of Byton, Daniel Kirchert stated that the company has made a significant amount of progress in the construction of the Nanjing facility as well as on the testing of the prototype vehicles. Kirchert further added that 2019 is a crucial year for the company and the Byton global team is leaving no stone unturned to achieve the company’s volume production goal.
According to reports, currently the manufacturing facility’s main body which includes the painting, stamping, battery, welding & assembly units, is under construction.
Reportedly, the company, in a lead-up to vehicle mass-production, is presently testing its prototype vehicles in China, the United States and Europe
